Eino Tamberg was the key figure in Estonian music in the thaw period of the sixties and his Concerto grosso (1956) represented the breakthrough for young Estonian composition into the international concert circuit. At the moment he is a professor at the Estonian Music Academy. The dominant factors of his work covering every genre are drama, a clear concept of form and the interest in joining lyrics and music, often in a surprising and unconventional style.
